University of Chicago Celiac Screening
The University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center will hold another free blood screening on Saturday, October 9, 2010. Prometheus Laboratories - in addition to screening 500+ people for Celiac Disease -will have their panel of experts take questions from the audience and exhibitors will showcase delicious gluten free products.
Many of the participants would not otherwise have had access to celiac disease testing for a variety of reasons. The blood screening is held on the 4th Floor of the University of Chicago Duchossois Center for Advanced Medicine. The test performed is the tTG-IgA, or anti-tissue transglutaminase test. This test is the most sensitive screening test available for celiac disease.

University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center is the only center in the nation to offer in-depth training to doctors and other medical professionals. This site provides information and support for celiacs. The Celiac Disease Center estimates that 97% of celiacs are undiagnosed. One of their missions is to raise the diagnosis rate. Another mission is to inform the public and the medical community about celiac disease through education, advocacy and research.
Mayo Clinic provides an overview of the symptoms, causes, risk factors, complications, tests,diagnosis, treatment, supplements and support for celiac disease. In addition, they provide resources and expert answers.
Celiac Disease Foundation promotes awareness and provides a forum to obtain new research information, lots of diet information, support for adults and kids and resources to make life easier with celiac disease. The have lots of downloadable information and a quick-start diet guide.
The American Celiac Disease Alliance was formed in 2003 by a coalition of support, research and industry organizations to work for the passage of the Food Allergen and Consumer Protection Act (FALPCA) which was signed into law in August of 2004 and took effect on January 1, 2006.This site has FAQ and so forth about FALPCA and considers itself the unified voice of the celiac community.

Problems with Food Labeling
Call the FDA State Complaint Coordinator if you believe that a product is mislabeled or you have any other problemswith the manufacture of a food product regulated by the FDA.
Perscription and Over-the-Counter Medications
Supplements are governed by the Food Labeling and Consumer Protection Act, but perscription medications and over-the-counter medications are NOT. Go to glutenfreedrugs.com to check out whether the drugs you take are gluten-free.
